Background

My name is Thomas Ghering, 33 and I’m the owner of Downtown Ink.

Hey guys! I’m Thomas Ghering, the proud owner of Downtown Ink for the last four years, and I’ve been tattooing for almost seven years. Born and raised in Wichita Falls, I’ve been married for nearly a decade, and we have a 6-year-old son who’s practically grown up in the shop—if you've visited, you've probably seen him around. My first passion was building and working on hot rods, which evolved into a lifelong love for V8 sports cars. Alongside cars, I’ve played golf my entire life and spent several years cooking professionally after attending culinary school. Tattooing, though, has been my main focus for nearly the last decade. It’s more than just work; it’s become my life. I have ten years of experience in various tattoo shops, starting as a daily shop rat at Avenue Tattoo, where I did everything from cleaning to managing the shop, before apprenticing for two years at Human Canvas. For the past four years, I’ve found my creative home at Downtown Ink, surrounded by great friends and fellow artists.

I’m deeply passionate about tattooing, with a particular affinity for black and gray realism. Since discovering this art form, I’ve been captivated by its power to convey emotion and detail through contrast and shading alone. I’m drawn to classic themes such as roses, skulls, pocket watches, and religious imagery like St. Judas and the Lady of Guadalupe—subjects that offer depth and meaning while allowing me to explore intricate, lifelike detail.

My tattoo style is known for its smooth, high-contrast style, where I bring photographic images to life on the skin. Each piece is a personal creation, designed with precision and care, ensuring it becomes a lasting and unique part of the wearer’s story. If you’re seeking a tattoo that blends artistry with realism, I’d love to collaborate with you and bring your vision to life.
